The creative/directional team - this is the team of Ku usa. Ku was the very first Asian brand worldwide debuting in 1991 in America, which made way for others to follow into the western world. Everyone in Japan knows KU. We have seven free standing stores there, including a 4 story flagship store in Daikanyama.
The Ku usa team is also the creator/originator of the Ed Hardy brand which we have since licensed out although still retaining the master license. Ku usa are also the owners of the master license for L A Airline.
The factory itself – L A Air line - this was started by Dennis Maroney in 1971 when he was individually airbrushing t-shirts on the Venice boardwalk and has evolved into the large factory it is today. All pieces are works of art which are totally done by hand, hand decorated or hand painted.....right down to the individually airbrushed hang tags. No two are ever the same. L A Airline produced the first shirts for the space shuttle program.
These are not just a screen printed t-shirts. Of course, some of the designs incorporate a hand done screen print, but they may also include:
stamp printing, airbrushing, rolling, splashing, foiling, hand painting etc. Many different techniques, infact L A Air line has a patent for some of its printing techniques.
Each shirt has no fewer than three techniques applied and some have up to 14 different applications by hand.
The name la air line comes from AIR brushing and LINE work (like pinstriping)
